We are thrilled to share the progress and development of our environmental projects for June.

This month we have focused on developing your connection with nature through our involvement with the Wildlife Trust’s #30DaysWild challenge, we have continued our focus on the waste issue with our monthly litter pick, and we have continued to preserve our precious ecosystem in our wild spaces.

Here are some of the highlights from this month!

Norton Nature Reserve and Community Gardens

Throughout the month we have engaged in active planting and landscaping of the community garden.

Martin, our grounds keeper, has planted a variety of fruits, vegetables and herbs in the raised beds. From crisp lettuce and aromatic parsley to sweet seasonal strawberries, the garden should be an edible hub in the near future. We encourage any community members to harvest this produce and share recipes. We hope this creates a culture of communal sharing and sustainable food practices.

We really hope to create a vibrant hub of social interaction and engagement in Norton Nature Reserve and Community Gardens. We held our usual Thursday and Saturday Green Team volunteer events. The first one of the month included building up our dead hedge border to the garden. It was a great physical task for our volunteers to connect with the materials they were using. We are also creating an essential habitat for wildlife and a naturally aesthetic boundary for our garden.

The intense sun followed by the much-needed recent showers have caused the garden to spring to life! The bank in NNRCG is bursting with an abundance of greenery, including this wild teasel.

The beautiful willow arch is also looking magnificent nestled into the hemp agrimony and sycamore trees behind.

Orchards: Our community orchards have begun to fruit, displaying many varieties of apple, pear and plum. We hope that in a few months’ time you can enjoy these delights. We invite you to have a walk through and watch as these amazing trees produce sweet, delicious fruits for us to enjoy.

Jubilee Gardens:

We have big plans for Jubilee Gardens to revive the space and transform it from its neglected state to a tranquil safe space for people to take refuge from the hustle and bustle of the promenade and be enveloped by nature. We met with the grounds person for Llanfair House and will be working with them to transform this space. Their main focus is supporting mental health, so we hope to emulate this in this particular green space.

If you visit now you will see beautiful colours from the flowers that have seeded here, like these Narrow-leaved Hebe and Common Knapweed.

Volunteer days:

On the final volunteer day of this month we moved to a new location. We spent the day tending to the gardens outside Mumbles Community Council’s base, The Ostreme Centre. We did some weeding, but also took some time to marvel over the resilience of some plants such as this Maidenhair Spleenwort to thrive in just the cracks in a stone wall.

Litter Picks:

June’s litter pick was held in Oystermouth. 3 volunteers arrived for this litter pick, where we cleared the Old Dairy Car Park. This is a site that has a continuous litter problem and will be a key focus of our Oystermouth litter picks.

Fis yma, rydym wedi canolbwyntio ar ddatblygu ein cysylltiad â byd natur trwy ymgymryd â her #30DiwrnodGwyllt yr Ymddiriedolaeth Natur. Rydym wedi parhau i roi sylw i'r broblem wastraff drwy gynnal ein sesiwn casglu sbwriel fisol, ac rydym wedi parhau i ddiogelu ein hecosystem werthfawr yn ein mannau gwyllt.

Gwarchodfa Natur a Gerddi Cymunedol Norton

Rydym wedi bod yn brysur yn plannu a thirlunio'r ardd gymunedol gydol y mis.

Mae Martin, ein gofalwr tir, wedi plannu amrywiaeth o ffrwythau, llysiau a pherlysiau yn y gwelyau uchel. O letys ffres a phersli peraroglus i fefus melys, dylai'r ardd fod yn ganolfan fwytadwy yn fuan iawn. Rydym yn annog unrhyw aelodau o'r gymuned i gynaeafu'r cynnyrch hwn a rhannu ryseitiau. Ein gobaith yw y bydd hyn yn creu diwylliant o rannu cymunedol ac arferion bwyd cynaliadwy.

Rydym wir yn gobeithio y gallwn greu canolfan fywiog o ryngweithio ac ymgysylltu cymdeithasol yng Ngwarchodfa Natur a Gerddi Cymunedol Norton. Cynhaliwyd ein digwyddiadau arferol ar gyfer gwirfoddolwyr y Tîm Gwyrdd bob dydd Iau a dydd Sadwrn. Roedd digwyddiad cyntaf y mis yn cynnwys ychwanegu at ein border gwrych marw yn yr ardd. Roedd yn dasg gorfforol wych i'n gwirfoddolwyr gysylltu â'r deunyddiau yr oeddent yn eu defnyddio. Rydym hefyd yn creu cynefin hanfodol i fywyd gwyllt a ffin naturiol esthetig i’n gardd.

Mae'r haul cryf diweddar a'r cawodydd a ddaeth i’w ganlyn, a oedd ddirfawr eu hangen, wedi achosi i'r ardd lasu’n fyw! Mae'r clawdd yng ngwarchodfa natur a gerddi cymunedol Norton yn orlawn o wyrddni, gan gynnwys cribau'r pannwr gwyllt.

Perllannau: 

Mae ein perllannau cymunedol wedi dechrau ffrwytho, gan arddangos sawl math o afalau, gellyg ac eirin. Gobeithio y byddwch yn cael y cyfle i fwynhau'r danteithion hyn ymhen ychydig fisoedd. Rydym yn eich gwahodd i fynd am dro drwy'r perllannau a gwylio wrth i’r coed anhygoel hyn gynhyrchu ffrwythau melys, blasus i ni eu mwynhau.

Gerddi Jiwbilî:

Mae gennym ni gynlluniau mawr ar gyfer y Gerddi Jiwbilî. Rydym yn gobeithio adfywio’r ardal a’i thrawsnewid o’i chyflwr anghofiedig i fod yn ofod tawel a diogel, lle gall pobl ddod i lochesu rhag prysurdeb y promenâd a chael eu hamgylchynu gan fyd natur. Rydym wedi cyfarfod â gofalwr tir Tŷ Llanfair a byddwn yn cydweithio ag ef i drawsnewid y gofod hwn. Eu prif ffocws yw cefnogi iechyd meddwl, felly rydym yn gobeithio efelychu hyn yn y man gwyrdd penodol hwn. 

Os ydych yn ymweld nawr byddwch yn gweld lliwiau hardd y blodau sydd wedi hadu yma, fel y pedwar-ban-byd culddail a'r bengaled.

Diwrnodau gwirfoddolwyr:

Ar ddiwrnod gwirfoddoli olaf y mis fe aethom i leoliad newydd. Treuliom y diwrnod yn gofalu am y gerddi y tu allan i ganolfan Cyngor Cymuend Y Mwmbwls, Canolfan Ostreme. Fe wnaethom ychydig o chwynnu, ond cymerom beth amser hefyd i ryfeddu at wydnwch rhai planhigion fel y duegredynen gwallt y forwyn hon, sy'n llwyddo i ffynny yn y craciau mewn wal gerrig. 

Sesiynnau Codi Sbwriel:

Cynhaliwyd sesiwn gasglu sbwriel mis Mehefin yn Ystumllwynarth. Ymunodd tri gwirfoddolwr a'r sesiwn gasglu sbwriel hon, lle gwnaethom glirio Maes Parcio'r Hen Laethdy. Mae problem sbwriel barhaus ar y safle hwn, ac yma y byddwn yn canolbwyntio ein sesiynau codi sbwriel yn Ystumllwynarth.
