As part of Mumbles Community Council’s Democracy event, which aims to educate and involve young people in their role in the community a meeting was held in Mayals school.
On Friday the 30th January for the first time , representatives from six primary schools across Mumbles met to discuss their ideas to be presented to the Community Council. Representatives of the school councils of Mayals, St David’s, Grange, Whitestone, Oystermouth and Newton schools presented two ideas each and voted on the most popular, which ranged from an art installation across Mumbles, a talent show, fundraising for charity, a small bandstand in Mumbles and decorating the fun train to look like the old Mumbles tram. The most popular idea was the “adopt an older person ” scheme.
All ideas were presented brilliantly and subject to rigorous questioning from fellow school councillors.
I think we have found several future politicians!
