As part of Mumbles Community Council’s plans to improve facilities for young people in the area, a new basketball hoop has been installed on what was previously empty tarmac at Yalton Park in West Cross. This is part of plans to introduce a range of new basketball and netball facilities across Mumbles following many residents expressing their wish to play these sports locally. The new hoop is already in use and it is hoped that it will provide fun physical activity for local young people, promoting their physical and mental well-being.

Cllr Rebecca Fogarty, Chair of Community & Social Development Committee, said “In light of the Covid pandemic, Mumbles Community Council is committed to supporting the well-being of residents and recovery of local communities. We recognise that the impact on young people has been particularly profound. We want to maximise use of the public park space in the area to ensure young people have safe places they can meet friends and have fun. It’s great to see an idea that has come from the local community become a reality.”

Plans to install a hoop in Newton Park have also been approved this week. All new facilities will be subject to six monthly review to address any concerns around noise and anti-social behaviour. This will also provide the Council with valuable information about what demand there is for other sports and recreation facilities in the area.
