Mumbles Skatepark Meeting

Mumbles SkaterampLast Monday, Mumbles Community Council hosted a public meeting at The Ostreme Hall in Mumbles to discuss ideas for a potential skatepark based in Mumbles.

The idea came about following a PACT meeting, where it was recognised there was a need for better provision for young people in the area.

A survey was carried out on the current skate ramp in Blackpill, and feedback showed that the ramp is now coming to the end of it’s life.

Mumbles Community Council have received more than 400 responses to a survey about a potential skatepark, which were overwhelmingly positive. Community councillors have also visted local schools to see what young people wanted to see in the area.

The location of the skatepark has yet to be cofirmed, although the preferred option is alongside the existing skateboard ramp on Mumbles Road.

Mumbles Community Council is asking for representatives to volunteer to help take the project forward. If you would like to get involved please visit the Skatepark Mumbles Facebook page.

The skatepark has also been backed by Olympic BMX rider James Jones. Originally from Sandfields, he moved to Corby in England because of a lack of facilities in the local area.

“For me, biking is my job. I got through to Team GB, but I’ve had to move to be near decent facilities.”

“I go to a venue in Corby, called Adrenaline Alley. I know the proposal being talked about would not be the same scale, but it would be something where skaters and riders could go.”

“That’s why I’m here to give my support.”
