Mumbles Community Council have applied to the Coastal Communities Fund for a grant of £172,000 as lead partner in a project looking to maximise Tourism opportunities for the unique, distinctive Gateway town to Gower; to sustain distinctiveness and improve the economic growth of the coastal community of Mumbles.
The ‘Marvellous Mumbles’ project will involve the establishment a cross sector partnership project board comprising of existing successful Community run organisations; led by Mumbles Community Council in partnership with Mumbles Development Trust, Mumbles Tourist Information Centre, Mumbles Forum, Mumbles Traders and the City and County of Swansea.
Each organisation individually currently successfully delivers a series of marketed events and activities to promote the area as a viable recreation tourism destination to support local businesses and sustain the local community.
The project will provide 2 co-ordinating Tourism Ambassadors working in partnership with volunteer based existing organisations, local businesses and the City and County of Swansea to develop a 5 year business and marketing action plan.
The project plan will facilitate co-ordinated and robust delivery of a community led sustainable programme of activities and events, community management of identified local facilities and the procurement of a feasibility study for harbour facilities.
2.5 direct jobs will be created. Existing at risk jobs / businesses will be sustained.
Mumbles Community Council’s Chairman Cllr Helen Mitchell said: “If the grant application is successful it will give a huge boost to tourism in Mumbles, with the improved facilities benefitting residents and tourist alike.”
Decisions are expected to be made in June/July on which applications will be invited to s bmit a full stage two application.
